THE BRAND
African Queen Baskets is an enterprise, which embraces the philosophy of trading fairly. My aim is to be a channel through which talented artisans gain empowerment through their own enterprise, while maintaining their longstanding artistic traditions. I am proud to be part of sustainable relationships with artisans in Sub-Saharan Africa knowing that their endeavours are an important contribution to the livelihoods of whole communities.
ABOUT ME
My name is Bindou Burns and I am from Cote D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) in West Africa. My business African Queen Baskets is based in the Byron Shire in NSW. My two daughters were born in Australia and through my business we maintain strong continuity with Africa.
Since arriving in Australia, in 1996, I have been trading goods from my homeland and also from Mali, Guinea Conakry, Cameroon, Burkina Fasso, Egypt, Ethiopia and Ghana.
In my previous business, Inside Africa, I was trading and selling sustainably produced elephant grass woven products from the Fra Fra people of Bolgatanga region in Ghana.
With this ongoing relationship I am able to provide customers with these bold, beautiful and durable handcrafted goods. If I would like to sell authentic and unique goods from Africa my business will gratefully partner with you.
